The Winter Olympic Games will take place in Milano Cortina (Italy) from February 6th to 22nd, 2026. Part of the competitions will be held in Livigno in northern Italy, as well as in nearby Bormio. A large proportion of spectators from northern and eastern Europe will travel to Livigno via the Ofen Pass or the Val Müstair, and through the single-lane, privately operated Munt la Schera tunnel. This tunnel represents a traffic bottleneck that is already sensitive to increased traffic volume under normal conditions.
To coordinate traffic flow, private vehicles are held in designated parking areas before being allowed to pass according to the priority principle..
This affects travelers from Italy (Livigno).. Travelers via the Julier Pass and through the Veraina Tunnel are not affected, but increased traffic is expected..
