AN ERA ON ICE – STALL ZÜRICHSEE

“When thinking of great Skikjöring legends, one often envisions a specific set of silks. Rolf Gossweiler’s Stall Zürichsee, together with trainer Miro Weiss, defined the action on Lake St. Moritz for decades.
With a total of 18 victories—above all by the unforgettable mare Volta—they wrote themselves into the history books of White Turf.”

The Foundation of Success
When it comes to consistency in Swiss racing, there is no way around Stall Zürichsee. Owned by Rolf Gossweiler and prepared by trainer legend Miro Weiss in Urdorf, the stable became a powerhouse on snow.

The Winning Streak Begins
The series began back in the 1990s: Efir, a name that remains inextricably linked with White Turf to this day, triumphed in 1995 with Duri Casty on the lines. Two years later, in 1997, Efir doubled down, taking two more victories with Köbi Broger.

Volta – The Queen of the Lake
But the true figurehead followed shortly after. Between 1999 and 2004, Skikjöring knew only one name: Volta. The exceptional mare dominated the events almost at will. 12 victories, all under the guidance of the experienced Köbi Broger, is a record that remains unparalleled to this day. They were the “Dream Team” of those years.

Success into the Present
The stable proved it wasn’t just about Skikjöring with Heloagain. He secured two flat race victories in 2019 with Silvia Casanova and added another in 2022 with Carina Schneider.
With a total of 18 victories—15 of them in Skikjöring—Stall Zürichsee ranks among the most successful and passionate participants in the 119-year history of the event.
